A TOTAL of 10,170 officers and personnel from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have been deployed to maintain security and ensure the smooth running of the 47th ASEAN Summit and its related meetings, making it the force’s largest security operation this year.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the deployment involves various departments and tactical units, including the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, Special Branch, Special Action Unit, 69 Commando, Federal Reserve Unit, General Operations Force, Air Operations Force, and other supporting elements.
He said the comprehensive operation also covers strategic locations such as the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), and official hotels accommodating international delegates.
“We have also deployed special teams for cybersecurity monitoring, airspace control, and surveillance of high-risk areas.
“Every aspect of security and traffic management has been carefully planned to ensure optimal readiness,” he said after inspecting preparations and a security rehearsal at KLCC today.
Also present were Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department Director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department (Operations) Deputy Director Datuk Fisol Salleh, and Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus.
Mohd Khalid said the delegation movement rehearsal, which began this morning, went smoothly and will continue until Oct 25 to ensure all security aspects are fully tested.
He added that several main roads in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and routes leading to KLIA have been closed in stages since Oct 17, with more significant closures expected from Oct 26 to 28, coinciding with the main summit days.
“Among the affected routes are Jalan Ampang, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan P Ramlee, Jalan Pinang, Persiaran KLCC, as well as major highways such as MEX, Elite, NKVE, and Guthrie,” he said, advising the public to avoid city areas unless necessary, plan their travel ahead, and use public transportation.
Mohd Khalid also expressed appreciation to all security and enforcement agencies — including the Malaysian Armed Forces, Immigration Department, Health Ministry, Fire and Rescue Department, Kuala Lumpur City Hall, Land Public Transport Agency, and Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia — for their close cooperation.
“This integrated approach reflects the strong spirit of inter-agency collaboration in ensuring the success of the 47th ASEAN Summit,” he said, urging Malaysians to comply with the law and act responsibly throughout the summit period.
